Chesapeake Bay Field Trip--Mouth of The Susquehanna River

Earlier this autumn, we visited the source of one of the branches of the Susquehanna (at Lake Otsego in Cooperstown, NY). Today we visited the spot where the Susquehanna River empties in to the Chesapeake Bay at Havre de Grace, MD.
First, we stopped just north of Havre de Grace at Susquehanna State Park to admire the river and go for a walk. There is an old grist mill there with an enormous water wheel and a walk along the old railroad tracks. The girls collected some little clam shells and other big shells, not quite sure what they are. We saw and heard bald eagles from afar, a kingfisher, 2 types of woodpeckers-downy and red bellied, a heron, a mallard duck, another little water bird, a seagull, crows, wrens, tufted titmouse, and chickadees!

We drove on to Havre de Grace to the Concord Point lighthouse, the northernmost Chesapeake Bay lighthouse.
