It was actually quite easy to get up and out of the tent at 6:45 to catch any sunrise views--the car promised warmth!
We were rewarded with a tiny peak at a bright orange sun.
Back at the campground, we took down the tent and packed up the car. We decided to get a little of our journey home out of the way in the extreme cold of the morning. We headed north on the mainland (no through road on the island) into Maryland and the back on to Assateague Island in hopes of seeing the wild ponies. We did spot two, but they were on the move...
Then on to Ocean City for an early lunch and one last play on the beach.

Chincoteague Trip-Day 2
Poured with rain all night and well into the morning, with dramatic gusts of wind.
Breakfast at a dinner in town--thankful we weren't doing back country camping! We drove south almost to the Chesapeake Bay tunnel to see an area where we had considered spending one of our nights. Lots of farm land-soy, corn (dried or cut by now), a few fields of cotton, sad chicken farms and the horrific smelling Perdue (chicken processing) plant. By the time we returned, the rain had let up and I was actually able to get a nice fire lit (with help from the dry firewood sold at the camp ground).
We had time to enjoy the fire, eat a take out seafood dinner and some campfire roasted hot dogs and corn (that corn was the best food of our whole trip!) before the rain started again around 8.

Trip to Chincoteague, VA
We decided to try our first camping trip this weekend. The past 3 years, this time of year has been absolutely beautiful-sunny and warm; of course this year had to be the year a strong cold front was moving in--complete with periods of driving rain and heavy wind. Despite the weather, we managed a few short beach trips (the girls' first ocean visit), an hour or two around the campfire, an amazing sunset (which could not be captured fully by the iPhone) and a cloudy sunrise.
The wild ponies made themselves scarce, but we did spy two!

Beautiful Evening
Stella is getting excited about sunsets (I'm wearing off on her), so we went out after dinner to check out the beautiful pink clouds.
In other news...we've been experiencing technical difficulties with posting to the blog. Hopefully, this App will work better so I can go back and fill in some dates and start posting daily!
