Larriland

Our favorite PYO farm is Larriland; the only thing we actually picked today were flowers-a beautiful assortment of orange and pink zinnias. We got the rest of the produce pre-picked from the barn--blackberries, blueberries, peaches, watermelon, fairytale eggplant, yellow and red large cherry tomatoes, corn, interesting summer squashes; had the eggplant and tomatoes grilled tonight with lamb burgers, watermelon for dessert. MMMmmmm

Stella's Painting

Okay, this is a 'baseball field', the long red stripe is 'the stands' and the little brown marks are 'the people in their seats'
And Stella took the picture.
Side note...white pants don't work well on painting day ;)

3rd Anniversary

The Mama and The Daddy had 2 weddings; our official ceremony at the beautiful courthouse in Ellicott City was July 25, 2008. We invited friends-Jen, Bill, and Dan to join us and celebrated afterwards at a Mexican restaurant-La Palapa. The Sister was there too.
We celebrated this year with a few new additions since the wedding- Finley (although, technically she was in attendance since Jen was 7 months pregnant) and Cary.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

The outfit Stella chose today was her red Angels' shirt and her black&orange O's shorts. I had to shut that down (it doesn't go Daddy!) and asked her which team she would like to focus on today. So, we're going full Orioles gear!

Another Stellavision

Here is another of Stella's photos...I can always count on her to have taken some random photos! I looked around the table at dinner and realized that we were really eating like locavores:
beef, tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, Lima beans...all local
It's so easy in the summer!

The sister continues to eat her decidedly un-local avocado, plus rice cereal, next stop peaches (sadly also not local since I can't find any organic local peaches). I am planning to freeze cubes of pureed local organic fruits and veggies while they last...we'll get to them eventually!

Look how messed up our table is...residue from corner guards, I suppose we'll be putting them back on soon enough, so I won't bother cleaning that up LOL

6 month photoshoot

Well, our 4 day marathon of eating worked! Cary weighs 15lbs1.5oz...almost 1lb heavier than she was at 5 months; in a week we'll get an official weight and height from the pediatrician.

6 months ago, Cary had just been delivered by c-section after 15 hours of unmedicated labor, including 2 hours of pushing; right about this time I was in recovery and holding my sweet baby for the first time!

Thoughts on Six Months

I just posted this as a thread in the 6-12 month forum of my favorite (only!) breastfeeding and parenting community - kellymom.com
I thought it would be a nice addition to our blog...

I can't believe it, but on Sunday (tomorrow) DD2-Cary, is officially 6 months old. Watching her sleep right now in my lap, I'm thinking about how far we've come and how much we have both learned in the past 6 months. It makes me teary eyed and I understand why people keep having babies--the mystical magic of a newborn...sigh.

We have really struggled with developing our breastfeeding relationship-first overcoming sleepy baby/poor latch and transfer issues and finally accepting that this breastfeeding relationship will involve supplementing; her amazing little personality allows us to go from breast to bottle to breast...all in one feeding; she's happy to hang out at the breast and patiently wait for the next let down and tolerate the slow flow I seem to have.
Unfortunately, we have had a stumble in the weight gain department...despite acceptable wet and poo diapers, she managed to lose 9 precious ounces during a roadtrip vacation that we took to visit various family. I think I also managed to get plugged ducts in both breasts, but that seems to be completely resolved since returning home.
I did increase her supplement (she takes all of her supplement during the day), plus offering feedings at the breast every hour and a half (roughly), and dream feeding every 3 hours overnight (she had been sleeping 6-7 hours overnight). I'll weigh her again at the end of the weekend and start cutting back on the supplement if she's back to gaining at an acceptable rate.
A side note...I am struck by the irony that I grow big babies (she and DD1 both weighed almost 11lbs), yet struggle to get them to gain weight (DD1 was exclusively FF after 4 months and she still gained slowly) once they are born!

Any way, not sure why I felt the need for this long missive just to say we're moving on up to the next age bracket-but here it is :).

Little Miss Funny Face

Cary is enjoying her 'walker' or more appropriately her 'stander,' as she has not discovered how to propel herself along in it. We'll have to put her on the kitchen floor in it soon! :)
