Saturday

Out of the house by 9 to take the cars for an oil change. Walked to a nearby breakfast spot. The Daddy told us he had a surprise for us and led us off on a walk. What he hoped would be a park with a playground turned out to be playing fields (in the blazing hot sun!) We took a path that led in to the woods and after an attempted nursing session (foiled by mosquitoes) in the woods, endless minutes of screaming from a tired and hungry infant, and a hot mama who wore jeans not expecting a 2 + mile walk, not to mention lack of sunscreen all around, the Daddy was informed a bit tensely that this was not the right time or family structure for 'surprises.'
That said, it was a beautiful day for a walk, the Mama sorely needed the exercise, the Sister had an adventure, and the Baby seems none the worse for the experience.

We all managed to avoid sunburn and 10 minutes away from the mechanic, he called to tell us the cars were done.

After an extended nursing session and some formula,

the Baby took a 3 hour nap, the Mama got a bunch of errands run, the Daddy and the Sister lounged and played around the house all afternoon.
The Sister spent many a minute testing out the big girl scissors that were brought home. Check out the 'tongue of concentration'

She was also thrilled at the huge bag of books from the library.

Dinner-locally raised t-bone steaks, beets, Jerusalem artichokes, and fennel all grilled up on the new grill that the Mama got for Mother's Day.

The Daddy and the Sister took few little turns around the neighborhood on bikes.

The Mama, the Sister, and the Baby cuddled up in bed; the Mama told an interesting version of the 3 little pigs, as she kept slipping into dreamland and adding little dream snippets to her story! Sleep followed shortly.

Sunday morning postscript:
Falling asleep around 10:45PM means that the Baby and the Mama are up at 2:45 for another meal; at 4:45, the Baby is about to get settled in her crib til morning...wonder how much more sleep the Mama's going to get?

The Daddy was found sleeping on the couch on the porch and declined the offer of a real bed, hope he doesn't wake up covered in skeeter bites!
